Restorative Practices: Supporting Adolescent Boys

July 17 and 18, 2025
9am-4pm

Dr. Jaron Green’s work bridges education and youth development with a focus on equity and community wellness.

Adolescent boys are full of curiosity, energy, and potential—but too often, school systems aren’t set up to support the way they learn best. Despite their strengths, many boys are falling behind—academically, emotionally, and socially. But the problem isn’t just the boys. It’s the system.

Join us for a two-day restorative workshop/retreat designed for educators, counselors, and community leaders who want to better understand and support adolescent boys in middle and high school. Grounded in research from Richard Reeves, Michael Reichert, and our own work in schools, this experience will explore how building strong relationships can re-engage boys and transform classroom culture.

We’re excited to be partnering with our colleague Dr. Jaron Green, whose work bridges education and youth development with a focus on equity and community wellness. Together, we’ll examine why boys struggle in traditional school settings and how time-bound systems often reinforce inequities—especially for Black boys. We’ll explore restorative practices that center connection, empathy, and belonging. You’ll leave with actionable strategies that support boys as relational learners, while benefiting all students.

What You’ll Gain:

  • Insight into the social and emotional needs of adolescent boys

  • Tools for building and repairing relationships with students

  • Practices that foster collaboration, reflection, and peer connection

  • Space to reflect, connect, and grow with like-minded educators

  • 14 Massachusetts Professional Development Points

Let’s shift the focus from what we teach to who we teach—and begin building the kinds of learning environments where boys thrive.
