Restorative Conferencing: Accountability, Healing & Repair in K-12 Schools
July 9 and 10, 2025
9am-4pm
Dr. Rachel King of RK Resolution, a nationally recognized expert in restorative justice and conflict resolution.
A restorative conference in a school setting is an intensive intervention used to repair serious harm; it is a more formal, community-centered, and collaborative way Restorative Practices are being used in schools today. Whereas punitive disciplinary actions such as suspension isolate students and often lead to loss of learning, loss of trust, and damaged relationships, restorative conferences seek to cultivate accountability, responsibility, inclusivity and healing. The process is nuanced and requires much attention, planning and care — and it can dramatically improve school climate, student relationships, and academic outcomes. We will discuss what accountability looks like in this context, who should be involved in restorative conferences, and how to guide a conference to maximize successful and transformative outcomes.
We are thrilled to be joined by Dr. Rachel King of RK Resolution, a nationally recognized expert in restorative justice and conflict resolution. Dr. King brings years of experience supporting schools, districts, and community organizations in implementing effective, trauma-informed conferencing practices.
This workshop is designed for educators, administrators, counselors and school-based practitioners who already have a foundation in Restorative Practices and are ready to deepen their work. This two-day workshop will allow for practice facilitating conferences using real life scenarios, including identity-based harms. In addition, we will address a host of implementation considerations to position attendees to most effectively hit the ground running.
In this training, you will learn:
The conditions under which restorative conferences are most appropriate, viable and successful
The components of a restorative conference
Guidelines and best practices for holding a restorative conference
How to follow up after a restorative conference
